Dae Dae’s Day; Raiders Complete Comeback Win in Overtime Over Capital

Sophomore Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) had the game-tying layup with 8.1 seconds left in regulation and had six of her career-high 20 points in overtime to help Mount Union women's basketball team complete a 69-64 comeback win in overtime on the road against Capital Saturday afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

The Purple Raiders (5-8, 2-4 OAC) also had a double-digit scoring performance from senior Gretchen Koken (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) who scored 14 and had nine rebounds.

Capital (9-4, 3-3 OAC) was led by Samaree Perkins who had a game-high 22 points.

The first quarter began with a three from freshman Audrey Livesay (Akron / Revere) as Mount Union took a 3-0 early on. Nash connected on her first three of the game to take an 8-4 lead but Capital responded with a 16-3 run over the final six minutes of the quarter to take a 20-11 lead.

Mount Union found its defense in the second quarter allowing just nine points for Capital as they shot just 22.2% and the Raiders stole the ball five times. Mount Union closed the score in the second quarter outscoring Capital 15-9 trailing by just three with a score of 29-26.

The third quarter saw Capital start off with a 7-2 run, but Mount Union responded with a 6-2 run to trail 38-34 with six minutes left in the quarter. Capital went up 47-41 with 3:56 remaining in the third quarter but Mount Union finished the quarter with a 5-2 run trailing 49-46 after the third quarter.

The fourth quarter began with four points by Capital until senior Emma Cannon (Dalton) connected with two free throws and freshman Addison Mucci (Canton / St. Thomas Aquinas) connected on a shot to bring the game with three at 53-50.

Capital led by four with 3:21 remaining but Nash took over the game from there hitting a driving layup while Koken hit a three with 37 seconds remaining to trail by two. Nash then proceeded to hit the layup with 8.1 seconds and Mount Union went to overtime and pulled out the victory Capital in overtime.

Mount Union will stay on the road with an OAC matchup against Marietta at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
