For the fourth season in a row (excluding 2020), the Walsh Cavaliers tennis programs find themselves in the Great Midwest Tennis Championships. Entering the Championships, the Cavaliers earned some national rankings through the ITA.
After clinching shares of the men's and women's regular season titles, the Cavaliers head to Owensboro, Kentucky with identical resumes. On the hands of a coin toss, Walsh ended up with the third seed and will face the Tiffin Dragons in both semifinal matchups.
The men, now nationally ranked in the 55th spot by the ITA, will take on the Tiffin Dragons, ranked 53rd in the 12:00 PM Eastern match on Friday (April 22). The Cavaliers will be opposed by the Dragons for the third straight time in the semifinals. As of Wednesday (April 20), the Cavaliers were slotted tenth in the NCAA Regional Rankings. Walsh is 15-9 overall for the season and finished 5-1 in the G-MAC.
Individually, Jakob Riglewski, the reigning G-MAC Athlete of the Week, is 40th in the ITA Singles Rankings. He sits 21-5 overall this season, and 20-4 in dual matches. The senior is perfect in conference singles matches, going 6-0.
Riglewski is teamed with Alex Medina Puigmarti as the 30th best team in Division II. For the season, they are 16-7 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
On the women's side, Walsh will take on Tiffin at 5:00 PM Eastern in their semifinal. Walsh is looking to return to the G-MAC Championship match for the third time in the last four attempts. Walsh is ranked 59th in the latest ITA National rankings with Tiffin at 47. They are 16-6 overall and were 6-1 in the conference.
