8

The Malone University softball team traveled to the University of Findlay on Saturday for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader.

The Pioneers (6-16, 2-9 G-MAC) dropped the opener 13-2 via the five-inning run rule. The Oilers (27-9, 11-1 G-MAC) completed the doubleheader sweep with a 7-2 win in the second game.

Game 1 Highlights

Malone got a one-out single from Mikayla Kesel in the top of the first, but the Pioneers were retired in order by an inning-ending double play.

In their half of the inning the Oilers plated five runs on four hits and two Malone errors.

MU responded with a pair of runs in the second inning.

Lauren Bennett doubled home Emily Spada, and Karlie Duvall singled home Bennett to make it a 5-2 game.

Unfortunately the Oilers scored the next seven runs of the game unanswered, including a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to win game one 13-2.

Game 2 Highlights

The Oilers opened up the scoring in the second game with a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning.

Jensen Miller sat Findlay down in order in the third, and the Pioneers were able to get on the scoreboard in the fourth.

With one out in the inning Lauren Bennett launched her team-leading second home run of the season to make it 2-1.

Unfortunately Findlay answered with five runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth to stretch their lead out to 7-1.

Erika Johnson came through with a RBI double in the top of the fifth to make it 7-2, but that ended the scoring on the day for both teams.

  • Lauren Bennett finished the doubleheader 3-5 at the plate with a team-high two RBIs. Her season average now stands at a team-best .318
