Stark County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Dec. 9.

Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier remains committed to bringing the annual Shop with the Sheriff event to the community despite the challenges of 2020.

“In a year filled with hardships, loss, and uncertainty, this event is even more important,” explained Sheriff Maier. “No child should go without and we are proud to recognize the opportunity to give back to the community as a welcomed part of our job. More than ever, this is a time when our community needs to come together to support one another.”

The event will be subject to adjustments as the Sheriff’s Office continues to prioritize the health and safety of everyone involved. The children, facing economic hardship, have again been identified through the Salvation Army. This year, the organization will submit the names and a wish list from the participating children to the Sheriff’s Office. Then, in partnership with Walmart, the Sheriff’s Office staff will shop for the children based on their wish lists, which will include sizes and a full description of any desired toys. All items will be safely stored at the Stark County Sheriff’s Office until December 12th.

On December 12th, deputies will deliver the items to the child’s home. Deputies will prioritize safety through a contactless delivery option and will leave the items at the front door of each home before calling to notify the family of the delivery and ensure they receive them.

The event is made possible and funded in part by the Walmart Store on Atlantic Boulevard, the Louisville McDonald’s, the Stark County Deputies Association, and the Stark County Wives’ Committee.
